Droid RAZR

Droid RAZR

The Droid RAZR From Motorola
By Mark S. Francis

Motorola released its latest phone known as the Droid RAZR in November 2011 and it has proven to be an excellent addiction to their ever-increasing range of top quality phones despite it being early days. When you are looking for a phone that is different but better, then you need to look no further than this masterpiece that is capable of a lot more than you might think.

There is not a lot that this phone cannot do; but rather than bore you with the details; here is a list of its features and specifications and what it can do:

Features and Specifications

Operates on the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread system with a scope for future upgrades

7 millimeters thick, making it one of the thinnest phones on the market

 4 inch screen

 Comes with extra-tough Gorilla glass

 Weighs about 0.130 Kilograms

1 GB of RAM which means you can store a whole load of music, pictures and more

16 GB Memory which means that you can store even more music, pictures and more!

 Dual core 1.2 GHz processor

Standby battery that will last 203 hours without needing to be charged

11 hours of continuous talk time

 4G network enabled

Business applications for those who use the handset for work purposes

 Rear-facing 8 mega-pixel camera and a 1080 pixel video camera

A whole host of games and the possibility to download more

Thousands of apps that can be downloaded

A great looking phone that stands out from the crowd

Predictive text function for emails and text messages

 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled

To be honest, the list could go on because this phone is a great one and I could rave about it all day. One of the best things about this phone is that it is different from a lot of the newer and older ones that other manufacturers are bringing out, and that is not a bad thing because as they say ‘Variety is the spice of life’, and it makes it stand out from the crowd.

The Gingerbread operating system that is found on android phones and other devices is known to be somewhat illusive and it’s hard to find anything with this system on it, which makes the Droid RAZR from Motorola even more attractive. This operating system is a particularly fast and effective one that makes using phones, tablets and other devices so much easier and less of a chore.

As far as I am concerned, the Droid RAZR is the only phone for me; it is so easy to use, it has a phenomenal amount of memory and it looks so good it makes every other handset out there look like something from the eighties.

Best Motorola RAZR

Best Motorola RAZR

Resurrected Iconic Motorola RAZR
By Sethe Gomez

Back in 2011, Motorola resurrected its iconic brand the Motorola RAZR. To date, this is the best RAZR that Motorola came up with. It is thin, lightweight, and tough. This is indeed a smartphone that is making big waves in the mobile phone industry today.

If you look closely at the RAZR, you will notice similarities with the famous Motorola Xoom 2. This is when it comes to the phone’s shape. The phone comes with cut-off corners as well. The big difference is evident when you flip open this handset. At first, you will be amazed at how thin this handset it. The actual width of the phone is at 7.1mm. But just because this is thin and lightweight, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the phone is frail. It is actually the opposite for its size. If you look at phone’s top part, you will notice that there is a bit of a bulk portion up there. This is where the phone’s camera is located.

The phone is not just thin, it is light as well. It weighs approximately at 127 grams. It is hard to imagine how Motorola was able to squeeze in a 4.3″ screen on this phone. When it comes to actually holding this unit, you will feel comfortable as the phone will fit your palm perfectly. If you look at the back of the phone, you will notice its woven Kevlar. It is the one responsible in giving you that comfortable feeling whenever you hold the phone.

When it comes to assurance that this phone is nothing but tough, then let me just tell you that this phone’s overall toughness relies on its Gorilla Glass display, Stainless steel core, and Splash Guard coating. This is the kind of protection that you would want to have on your mobile phone.

You can’t open up the back part of this phone to access its battery. Instead you will see the microSD and microSIM card slots located at the side of the phone hidden behind a fold down cover.

This handset ships with 1GB of RAM, a Texas Instruments 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and 16GB of internal storage (on-board). You can also use as much as 32GB by simply using the phone’s microSD card slot. These are some of the best specifications that you can expect from high-end smartphones.

As you can see, these are just some of the latest features that the resurrected and iconic Motorola RAZR is capable of giving you.

Key Features Of The Motorola RAZR

Key Features Of The Motorola RAZR

Comparing The Key Features Of The Motorola RAZR And The iPhone 4S
By Chris C Wesley

The Apple iPhone 4S and the Motorola RAZR are the respective companies’ current flagship smartphones. They are both worthy of this title thanks to a number of impressive features across their spec lists, in terms of software and hardware alike. In this article I will compare a selection of their key features so you can decide which one comes out on top.

Operating System

One of the fundamental differences between the iPhone 4S and the Motorola RAZR are they operating systems that they utilise. The iPhone 4S uses the iOS platform which is found on all iPhones as well as iPads. Millions are familiar with its ease of use, the layout of its interface and the apps which can be downloaded from the AppStore. The Motorola RAZR however runs the latest version of Android, called Gingerbread. Android phones are well known for their customisable interfaces, as well as apps from the Android Market. Android recently overtook iOS in global market share, showing just how popular the platform has become in a relatively short space of time. Based on operating systems alone, choosing between these two phones is purely subjective as you are likely to prefer either Android or iOS which will be a deciding factor between the phones.

Camera

Both the Motorola RAZR and the Apple iPhone 4S share relatively similar cameras. Like most high end smartphones released in 2011, they both sport built in cameras with a resolution of 8 megapixels. Each of these is capable of capturing 1080p video footage comes with a package of image enhancing features such as LED flash, autofocus, face detection and image stabilisation.

Processor

Being flagship smartphones, you would expect the iPhone 4S and Motorola RAZR to sport dual-core processors and indeed this is the case. The main difference between the two is the clock speeds. On paper, the processor of the Motorola phone is superior with a 1.2GHz chip compared to the 1GHz of the iPhone 4S. In reality you would have to be very well versed in this technology to actually notice a difference when using the phones. Either way, each phone enjoys top performance from the processors, across numerous aspects of their hardware and software alike ensuring a great user experience.

Screen

At 4.3 inches, the Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of the Motorola RAZR is somewhat larger than the 3.5 inch LED-backlit IPS capacitive display of the iPhone 4S. This may be better suited to those who regularly play games or watch movies on their phone, or simply prefer a larger screen. N terms of pixel resolutions there is actually very little difference. Of course the iPhone 4S has the well known ‘retina’ display resulting in great image display quality at a resolution of 640x 960. The resolution of the Motorola RAZR’s screen is 540x 960, which can be forgiven due to the larger size of the screen.

Choosing between these two phones is likely to come down to personal preference for one of the following; brand, design, or operating system. Each phone represents the best of what is available for each operating system, and you are unlikely to be disappointed with whichever you choose.

Motorola RAZR Features

Motorola RAZR Features

A Comparison Of Features On The Motorola RAZR And The Samsung Galaxy S2
By Matthew Bruen

Motorola have recently unveiled their new RAZR handset which is a premium smartphone boasting a great combination of stylish design and excellent features. Here we put this model besides the best selling Samsung Galaxy S2 to see how the new model compares with the phone that has proved to be the best device of 2011.

There really is very little to choose between these two models when it comes to design. These are two of the slimmest phones that you are likely to encounter with the Galaxy S2 offering an overall depth of just 8.5mm. This is eclipsed by the impressive RAZR which offers a depth of just 7.1mm for the majority of the body. The only exception to this is a small protruding lip at the top of the phone which houses the camera lens. The S2 offers a more rectangular form whilst the RAZR gives us tapered corners and a more unusual design which ultimately proves more attractive. In terms of performance there is very little difference between the two phones as they both incorporate the same dual core 1.2 Ghz ARM Cortex A9 processor. This processor ensures both models are amongst the fastest phones available and can handle multi tasking facilities with ease. The graphics processing units fitted in both models do differ slightly and the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes out on top here with its PowerVR SGX 540 chip being more suited for demanding games titles and multi media usage.

When we take a look at the screen technology used on both phones the Motorola RAZR seems to have the upper hand. Despite offering the same sized 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display it manages to offer a higher 540 x 960 resolution than the Samsung. The result of this extra quality is that the handset can offer 256 pixels per inch compared to 217 on the Galaxy S2. The Samsung screen is still impressive however and offers a respectable resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This high standard of display is perfect for viewing photographs and videos recorded on the phone. In this area both phones offer great facilities including an 8 million pixel still camera and the ability to capture 1080P video footage. The Motorola RAZR has the upper hand when it comes to the front facing camera as this can record 720P HD resolution rather than the standard VGA offered on the Galaxy S2.

On this evidence it seems that the new Motorola RAZR is well poised to take over from the Samsung Galaxy S2 as one of the highest quality handsets available. Despite the phones being very similar in many areas the RAZR does have the edge thanks to its striking looks and great screen quality.

The Motorola RAZR is coming soon and the Samsung Galaxy S2 is available now.

Top Smartphones

Top Smartphones and Apps of 2011 Holiday Season
By Todd Rip

When looking at what type of smartphone you should purchase, there seems to be so many options out there nowadays. Between the Android devices and the Apple devices, there are many choices tailored to your needs and willing to give you everything you could need in a phone and so much more. Gone are the days of just using it to talk. Now they are used to surf the internet, text and play games. For that reason, you have to look at specific types of smartphones but knowing the right ones can be somewhat difficult.

One option available is the Motorola DROID RAZR. Billing the phone as the thinnest smartphone around, it is both sleek and light which means it is easier to carry for you. Made of Kevlar, steel and aluminum it creates a phone that is a very good option after the original RAZR. This smartphone comes with the highly touted Android software and weights a little under 4.50 ounces. The physical size of the phone is 4.30 inches with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Of the main features available you get a light sensor as well as a proximity sensor and scratch-resistant glass. One of the most important factors when one buys a smartphoneis battery life. The Motorola DROID RAZR offers an average of 12.50 hours of talk time and an amazing 204 hours of stand-by time. The camera features are also spectacular as you can take HD Video and the camera has 8 megapixels. Lastly, the system hardware comes in at 1024 MB of RAM with roughly 16 GB of built in memory. This phone should be available in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Another great option is the Galaxy Nexus. This is the first phone to run the newly created Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which is being sold as the version which puts an end to fragmentation. Powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor, it clearly is one of the fastest phones available on the market today. The weight of the phones comes in at 4.76 ounces. The physical size of the phone is 4.65 inches which continues to be consistent with most of the Android devices with how light and small they are to carry. The phone also takes HD video with the camera offering 5 megapixels. The system memory comes with 1024 MB RAM and roughly 32 GB of built-in storage. This phone should be available in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Lastly, the third most popular smartphone of those released or to be released is the Apple release iPhone 4S. Many were disappointed that it came out as the iPhone 4S opposed to the iPhone 5 but it has not disappointed. It comes with a reworked iOS 5 and introduces a really cool new feature called Siri, which is a personal assistant for you to verbally communicate with for reminders and information. It comes with a 3.5″ screen with a resolution of 640 x 960 pixels; however the inside of the phone is a very powerful and impressive dual-core A5 processor. Coming in at a weight of a little under 5 ounces, it may be a little heavier than its Android counterparts but nothing that would deter the customer. It offers HD video capture and a camera with 8 megapixels. The system memory comes with 512 MB RAM with up to 65 GB of built-in storage.

One of the most appealing features of smartphones are the apps available for download. Some must have Android apps are Google Sky Map, which allows you to see the stars in the sky by pointing your phone to the sky, ASTRO file manager which allows you to manage files on your device and Seesmic which is one of the top Twitter apps available for any phone. For the iPhone, some of the tops apps available are Amazon, PayPal and who can go anywhere without their very own copy of Angry Birds, available on both Android and iPhone devices.

2012 Smartphone Releases

2012 Smartphone Releases

What Smartphone Releases Can We Expect In 2012?
By Chris Westley

There is no doubt that 2011 was a great year for new smartphones. We saw the release of the iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation among many others. We can only speculate at this point as to what we will see released in 2012. In this article I will take a look at a couple of likely releases.

Samsung Galaxy S3
As a successor to the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galaxy S3 has been confirmed for release in 2012. There are no confirmed specs at the moment, but the internet has many rumours as to what we can expect from the handset. Samsung has already beaten the screen resolution of the iPhone 4S with the Galaxy Nexus, so we can probably expect to see this carried over to the Galaxy S3. A big increase in processing power also looks likely, as there are rumours that HTC already has plans for a quad-core powered device some time this year. Of course, the new versions of Android will also be supported, with a new version being released every year. It may be the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of the software, or it could be a later version depending on what time of year the phone is released.

iPhone 5
Apple never fails to cause quite a stir every summer when they announce their new iPhone models. Many were expecting to see the iPhone 5 released in 2011, but instead we were introduced to the impressive iPhone 4S. Therefore, the iPhone 5 is pretty much guaranteed to be released this summer. We can expect to see a new design aesthetic, a new version of iOS, more processing power and probably an upgraded camera. With iPhones, we are never sure about specific features until its release, as Apple is very good at keeping secrets until the release date. Just like the iPhone 4S has features like Siri, we can surely expect some other groundbreaking feature form the next iPhone.

What other trends can we expect to see in 2012? It is entirely possible that 3D technology will be integrated into more smartphones, as well as quad-core processors. The first dual-core smartphone was released in 2011 (LG Optimus 2X), and there is already talk of quad-core devices in development, so technology is clearly still advancing at a rapid rate. Screen resolutions will also be increased, if recent releases are anything to go by. Until recently the iPhone 4 was unmatched in the resolution of its touchscreen, but we have seen the release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note, and the Motorola Razr offering higher screen resolutions, all released in the last few months.

Best Android Phones of 2012

Best Android Phones of 2012

Best Android Phones of 2012 to Look Out For
By Jo Ramani

2011 was all about the dual core processors and we also got to experience amazing phones such as the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx, Samsung Galaxy SII and the others are capable of. So now that 2011 has gone by, the question on everyone’s mind is “What’s next?”

In 2012, chip makers will be offering quad core processors that supports mobile multitasking and it performance would be comparable to what a desktop computer could achieve a few years back. These processors would be powered by TI’s OMAP and Tegra 3 SoC’s equivalent. The increase in the number of cores means more energy which in turn means better performance. Motorola Razr Unique Features

Motorola Razr Unique Features

Features That Make the Motorola Razr Unique
By Sethe Gomez

Android is the dominating force in the mobile phone market today. Various manufacturers have released handsets that offer unsurpassed performance, and jaw-dropping form factor. One of these handsets is the Motorola Razr. This is a revival of the most iconic smartphone in the history of mobile phones. This new version comes with a number of unique features.

First of all, the phone is impossibly slim. It is a mere 7.1 mm thin. This makes the smartphone a marvel of engineering. This extremely thin form factor will definitely make the phone slimmer compared to most of the phones in the market. Not only is it slimmer, it is also a good looking handset. It sports diamond-cut aluminum accents and sculpted glass.

Despite being extremely thin, it is anything but frail. No longer does a slim profile equate to being fragile. One of the materials used to create the device is Kevlar fibers. This bullet proof material makes the phone extremely strong. When it comes to scrapes and scratches that ruin displays, the device is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. Electronics will always be vulnerable to water. This will not be a problem with this handset. Splash-guard coating makes the device water resistant.

Since the Motorola Razr is so slim, it is hard to believe that it has a lot of processing to offer. However, this is exactly what it comes with. It comes packed with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM under the hood. This equates to processing power at blinding speeds.

The Motorola Razr sports a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. With this high-quality display, you will enjoy more from 1080p video playback. It will be like watching films on your HDTV at home. When it comes to movies, the phone’s zero motion-blur technology will keep movements on videos smooth.

This smartphone comes with a unique app called Smart Actions. This will help with everyday tasks. It will turn the ringer down whenever you walk into your office. It will adjust the phone’s settings to save on battery life when you get home. It will even send a text message to a loved one if ever you miss their call. With the Smart Actions app, you don’t have to worry about a thing.

When it comes to software, Motorola’s new flagship is pre-installed with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Unfortunately, this is not the latest iteration just like Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However, there is no need to worry. Motorola will be rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich update to this mobile phone early in 2012.

These features make the Motorola Razr unique. This is why the device is one of the most desired smartphones in the market.

Motorola Razr Screen Technology And Performance

Motorola Razr Screen Technology And Performance

An Overview of Screen Technology And Performance On The Motorola Razr And The Nokia Lumia 800
By Matthew Bruen

Motorola have established a reputation for producing high quality mobile devices that offer great design combined with some excellent features. The new Motorola Razr is no exception and this exciting new device looks set to be one of the most popular phones of 2012. We see how this new phone compares with the latest handset released by Nokia, the new Lumia 800.

Screen technology is one of the most vital areas on any modern phone and the Motorola Razr offers some extremely high quality in this department. The models uses a 4.3inch Super AMOLED display which is the same type of screen that has been used on the award winning Samsung Galaxy S2 handset. This type of screen produces bright colours and also works very well in sunlight which is where many other types of screen can encounter problems. The Razr displays a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels which results in a great pixel density of 256PPI. The Lumia 800 uses an AMOLED screen which is less energy efficient and displays a slightly darker image than the Super AMOLED variety that the Motorola uses. This is slightly smaller at 3.7 inches and also offers a lower resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. In terms of pixel density this means that the Lumia is capable of displaying 252PPI which is a level very similar to what the Razr can offer. The Motorola however comes out on top in this area as it uses the newer screen technology on a larger screen which makes it perfect for a multitude of uses including movie playback and gaming.

The Motorola Razr offers an incredibly powerful chipset to match the high quality screen that it uses. The model features a 1.2Ghz dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor that is regarded as one of the very best mobile processors available. Graphics are looked after by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU that makes gaming and movie playback look incredibly clear and detailed. The Razr also boasts 1GB of RAM memory which helps to make this model one of the most powerful available. The Lumia 800 uses a 1.4Ghz single core Scorpion processor which is both reliable and capable of producing performance speeds similar to the Motorola. An Adreno 205 graphics processing unit gives the visuals a real boost but the overall package is let down by a rather small RAM memory of 512MB. Although this does not have much of an impact on the operation speeds of the model it does limit the phone when it comes to running new software that is released in the future.

The Motorola Razr and the Nokia Lumia 800 are two high quality smartphones that both offer attractive looks and some excellent features. The Motorola handset does impress us more than its rival thanks to the stunning screen quality and the fast performance times that it offers.

The Motorola Razr and the Samsung Galaxy S2 are available now.
